This is the idea of Cherdo, who tells stories that make you laugh like a fool, the point of which are that she meanders through life being a bonehead, and it never crosses your mind (while you are laughing) that she’s about as boneheaded as a fox.
Your hosts are Cherdo, of Cherdo on the Flipside.
And me (Diana Wilder)
I have spent the past week plus battling a dying computer that has stumped the good folks at my local computer store, crossed swords with Windows 8, which I am convinced is a plot by Microsoft to destroy civilization and drive it mad in the process. I wish I could think of something I did during all this time to show what a dope I have been, with this whole episode, but I honestly can’t. Unless it is that I have been stupid enough to underestimate the tendency of computer-type folks to keep fiddling even after they have come out with a product that is splendid in its simplicity, easy to use, and magnificent in its capability.
…This from the person who has tweaked a book cover for the umpteenth time until my nearest and dearest have inquired, sweetly, whether I am thinking of putting my hero in a dress for the cover and spring a surprise ending on everyone a la Bruce/Caitlin Jenner.
But, truly, I have had my share of truly dopey moments. Let me tell you of one.
…Imagine me, tanned and fit, wearing my Camp Counselor getup. Imagine the boy who filled my dreams, cute grin…
Yeah, definitely kissable…
I knew – just knew! – that he would kiss me as we went into the shoreside curve, heading back toward the cabins. A little footbridge was before me, we moved onto it, walking slowly, I looked up at him –
The world went forty directions, the earth came up and smacked me in the stomach, something seized my leg, and my face hit the dirt. I couldn’t move my one leg, and the other, making the motions of running, seemed to be doing it in a vacuum.
Behold, the Snapping Turtle
The Hunk as he truly was
I gave him The Look and walked back to my cabin alone.
“Yeah,” said I, “But I was a dope to have a crush on him.”
Go visit Cherdo’s site and grab the links (I am still trying to figure out my new computer, including how to make the images smaller now) and then look around. You’ll laugh, think, and generally have a great time!
Oh, no! The spoiled romantic moment is the worst! You should have told him that you two needed to be together…because SOMEONE needed to teach him how to be the knight in shining armor. Maybe the snapping turtle could float by and offer suggestions?Once, my first hub (“Diablo”) and I were looking at houses. We pulled up to the curb and parked. I got out of the car and took two steps forward and immediately dropped to the ground – one leg in a hole and one leg out with my pelvis taking the brunt of the force. YEEE-OOOWWW. I'd stepped into a hole where they had just removed a telephone pole. Diablo said “where did you go?” Pain and ridiculous body positions don't make it any better….Thanks, Diana! You're the co-hostess with the mostess.
You have me in stitches, I'm laughing so hard. No matter how embarrassed you felt for going through that hole, your sister was right, he was the bonehead!
Fellow sufferer! Yes, with a Doofus standing by, as well!
I'm laughing remembering it. How quickly our emotions can change! And how right we are – the bonehead!
Ow! OW! Don't know which would have been more badly bruised; your leg or your dignity; perhaps you should have found a snapping turtle and attached it to his… fundament.
Now I'm laughing! Of all the stupid things for him to say! I do wish someone had taken a video of my tumble..
Ahh, yes. We've all been there – infatuated with an imagined ideal, which has nothing to do with reality. Thank goodness you didn't break your leg and only suffered minor bruises to your dignity. Thanks for mentioning the “Cloud” storage in your last post. I couldn't find Microsoft's, but I've now uploaded a giga of stuff onto Google Drive. Now if I can just remember to update every day…
Yeah, you weren't the real bonehead in this scenario but… you write so wonderfully, who cares about that?Who's that kissable guy in the photo? (Not that I too think he's kissable, mind you. Just curious who the bloke might be. Some actor, I s'pose.)~ D-FensDogG'Loyal American Underground'
That, Dear Sir, is Hugh Jackman, recently played Jean Valjean in Les Mis (movie) and The Wolverine in the superhero movies. He has said he's too 'long in the tooth' to play it any more. He can put his shoes outside my door any time. Alas, I believe he's happily married. Sigh. (And I'm blushing at the compliment even as I rub my bruised leg and ego)
The Google drive is good (glad you found it). Per The Geek Squad (I thought it long before) as long as you're not storing in just one place, you're doing well. Based on what I've read of your books, losing any of them is a tragedy.
It amazing how many princes can turn into a squid after they open their mouths. I think it's why I gave up dating. But the really funny thing is that there are people who are so honestly and spectacularly stupid that they will live on in our memories for a very long time.
Diana, you rendered that bonehead perfectly!! 🙂
*correction: 'bonehead moment' perfectly!
Okay, he' was a bonehead, but maybe he was just dazed by the romance in the air and the lovely girl beside him? Nope, definitively a bonehead.
